Installation & first steps

Verify initialization and the first call

After installation, check that Obelisk can connect to the PBX, show a known call and play its recording. Start with installation diagnostics, then follow the steps below.

Obelisk documentation

Run complementary checks

  1. Review the web diagnostics

Open Installation diagnostics in Administration and run Verify installation. Read the detail of errors and warnings, including dependencies and service configuration. PHP served by Apache or FPM can differ from command-line PHP, so a successful terminal check does not replace this review.

  2. Inspect installed files from SSH

For the default path, use the following read-only checker with the PHP CLI selected for the installation. It reads files without executing application configuration, opening a database or contacting services. Exit code 0 allows warnings; 1 indicates detected problems and 2 invalid usage.

    Command
    cd /var/www/html/obelisk &&
    sudo php utility/check_installation.php
  3. Follow a known call

Place or identify a call through a known queue. Check the report period and filters, then verify that the call appears. Open a known recording and test playback. This confirms the chosen data and audio paths with an observable example.

Interpret an incomplete result

Processing earlier calls can take time. If a report is empty, first check its date range and the processing status in Installation diagnostics. If live views do not update, check AMI in System and utilities and apply any pending FreePBX configuration. If a recording does not play, check its folder and permissions. Use the guides linked below for the specific problem.

Record the result of the first operational check

Use one known queue and one call whose time and outcome you can verify. Keep the same date range and queue selection while moving between reports. This short checklist separates the live connection, historical processing and audio access, so an empty report does not automatically become an installation problem.

CheckExpected observationIf it is missing
Live queueThe authorized queue appears and its state changes with the test call.Review AMI, any pending FreePBX reload and the user’s visible resources.
Historical reportThe completed call appears after processing, in the selected period and queue.Review filters, source data and SQL event processing; allow time for initial history.
RecordingA known recording can be found and played with an authorized account.Review the configured audio path, file permissions and listening permission.

Complete product screenshots

This is Installation diagnostics, available in Administration → System and utilities. Verify installation checks database connections, required PHP components, application files and report processing. Below the results, read the explanation of each warning or error. The permission-repair panel provides commands to review and correct file access from SSH; opening it does not change permissions. Open the screenshot to read the example results at full size.

Permission repair guidance

This panel shows two commands to run over SSH on the PBX. First use --dry-run to list the proposed file-permission corrections without applying them. Review the result and arrange maintenance before using --apply --maintenance-confirmed to apply the corrections. Then run Verify installation again to check the result.
