Administration & maintenance

Organize operational views

Build shared groups of queues and extensions, then combine them with account permissions and each team leader’s preferences.

Obelisk documentation

Where to start

Open Administration → Operational views. Queue sections organize Dashboard, Wallboard and Videowall. Monitor and Status have separate extension groups: configure both when the same team needs those two views. Start with the available PBX inventory and identify the resources belonging to each service.

Create a group and add resources

Work on one area at a time and save its changes. Names shown in Obelisk can differ from PBX names; an alias does not rename the queue in FreePBX.

  1. Define the service

Create a section such as Customer care, select its queues and arrange sections and queues in the required order. Use the equivalent group editor for Monitor or Status extensions.

  2. Set visibility and privacy

Choose aliases, hide resources that should not appear and set the available name or number masking options for that view. Save before moving to another area.

Work in the right shared area

The three editors save independently. Wait for the inventory to load before editing, then use the Save button belonging to that area. A group is an organizational container: adding a queue or extension to it does not create that resource in FreePBX.

AreaWhat to configure
Dashboard and historyQueue sections, display aliases, order, hidden queues and available name/number privacy. Check the resulting live organization in Dashboard, Wallboard and Videowall.
Extension MonitorExtension groups, group and member order, hidden extensions and the privacy options of Monitor.
Extension and trunk StatusStatus groups and name privacy, plus hidden rows, including trunks or manually entered identifiers.

Build and maintain a team view

For example, create a Support group with the queues handled by that service, then build the corresponding Monitor group with its extensions. Use the available drag handles or ordering controls to place the most useful resources first.

  1. Add, label and review

Add the group, give it a recognizable name, select its members and review aliases and hidden resources. Removing a member from a group or hiding it changes the view, not its PBX membership.

  2. Reuse Monitor settings in Status

Save Monitor first, then use Copy settings from Monitor in Status. Review the copied groups, order, hidden extensions and name privacy; number privacy is not copied. Previously hidden Status rows remain hidden. Save Status to apply the reviewed copy.

  3. Refresh without losing your decisions

When PBX inventory changes, refresh its list and review the new resources. If a concurrent edit is reported, note your unsaved draft, reload the saved version and reconcile the changes before saving again.

Check the team leader’s view

Assign the appropriate live resource scope in Users, then sign in with the intended account. Check Dashboard, Wallboard, Videowall, Monitor and Status separately. Confirm group order, aliases and masking; an administrator’s unrestricted account does not reproduce the team leader’s view.

When a resource is missing

Check shared visibility, account scope and personal preferences in that order. Refresh the inventory if a PBX resource was recently added, then review and save the relevant area. Live resource scopes do not extend to reports, exports or recordings; configure their page and action permissions separately.

Use the controls, understand what changes

Queue sections, Monitor groups and Status groups have separate editors and saves. Add the resource to the intended group, check the shared visibility and save that area. Copy from Monitor prepares a Status draft; review it and save Status explicitly.

Create the group, then add its queues

In Administration → Operational views → Dashboard & Wallboard, go to Queue sections and select Add group. Enter a name, then use Add queues to open the member selector. Search by name or ID, select the queues and confirm with Add selected. The capture shows the group after its members have been added.

Drag the handles to order groups and queues, or use the available keyboard controls. Save Dashboard and history to apply the changes. Use the separate Monitor and Status tabs for extension groups; creating a group does not by itself grant an account access to it.
