Transfer and open the installation kit
Download the complete Obelisk ZIP, copy it to the FreePBX server and extract it into /root/obelisk-install. Keep that directory: it will also be useful if you need to resume installation or manage scheduled jobs.
Transfer the complete archive
Download obelisk-latest-version.zip and connect to the PBX with an SFTP client. If you are using a Windows client, WinSCP is one option. Transfer the ZIP in binary mode: if the client offers a transfer mode, choose Binary, not Text/ASCII. Copy it to /root. If your account cannot write there, upload it to your home directory and ask the administrator to move it to /root. Alternatively, use the commands on the Demo page to download the ZIP directly from the PBX.
Connect to the PBX over SSH
Connect over SSH to the Linux server running FreePBX, using the address and SSH account supplied by its administrator. Replace USER with your SSH username and PBX_HOST with the PBX address. After signing in, run the installation commands on that server.
Check the host and sign in
At the first connection, compare the host fingerprint with the value supplied by the administrator before accepting it. Enter your password or use your configured SSH key. A password entered in a terminal is normally not displayed. You should reach the shell of the FreePBX server.
Use the administrative account
If you are not already root, the next step uses sudo -i and requires an account authorized to administer the server. Do not enable root SSH access just for this guide. If SFTP cannot write to /root, upload the ZIP to your own home directory and have the administrator place that exact file in /root before extraction.
ssh USER@PBX_HOSTUse a dedicated working directory
Enter the administrative shell
If you are not already root, use the following command with an account authorized for sudo. The commands use the stable download name obelisk-latest-version.zip. Check that the ZIP is in /root before continuing.
Commandsudo -iOptional: verify the downloaded file
This check is optional. If you received a SHA-256 verification code when downloading the demo or after purchase, compare it with the result of the command below. This code is the file checksum, not the license activation key. If the values differ, download the ZIP again before installing.
Commandsha256sum /root/obelisk-latest-version.zipExtract without overwriting files
The commands below create the working directory and extract the ZIP into it. The -n option keeps existing files unchanged. If /root/obelisk-install already contains an earlier attempt, keep it and follow the installation-resume instructions linked below.
Commandmkdir /root/obelisk-install && unzip -n /root/obelisk-latest-version.zip -d /root/obelisk-install && cd /root/obelisk-install
Keep the kit available
You should now find install.sh and its companion files in /root/obelisk-install. Keep the whole directory outside the website folder. Continue with the preliminary check in the next chapter; installation starts after that check.
